All councils in South Australia are responsible for administering and enforcing the provisions of the Dog and Cat Management Act 1995. The Act gives councils the authority to manage the day-to-day enforcement and application of laws relating to the responsible ownership of dogs and cats in the community.

The Dog and Cat Management Board of South Australia was established under the Act to plan for, promote, and provide advice on the effective management of dogs and cats throughout the state. Visit the Visit the Dog and Cat Management website for more information.
